Mariner High School Attendance Information

Dear Mariner Families,

The Mariner Attendance Office is dedicated to maintaining accurate attendance and open communication so every student feels supported and connected. Thank you for partnering with us to support your student’s learning and success! All attendance-related information can be found below.

How to Reach Us

Hours: 7:00 AM – 3:00 PM

Attendance Line: (425) 366-5760, For Spanish: (425) 366-5714

• E-mail: MAAttendance@mukilteo.wednet.edu

If you reach our voicemail, please leave a detailed message so we can update your student’s attendance and get back to you as soon as we can. We experience a high number of calls in the mornings, so contacting us through ParentSquare or e-mail is often the fastest way to connect.

Thank you for helping us maintain accurate attendance and for your continued support. Please don’t hesitate to reach out with any questions — we’re always happy to help!

  • If your student is absent, please contact us within 48 hours. Include:

    • Student’s full name and ID number

    • Date(s) of absence, tardy, or early dismissal

    • Reason for absence

***Additionally, a student may submit a doctor’s note or a note from home with the parent/guardian’s name and signature within 48 hours.
***

    Excused absences may include:

    • Illness, health conditions, or medical appointments

    • Religious or cultural observances

    • Family emergencies

    • Court or jury obligations

    • College, technical school, or apprenticeship visits/interviews

    • Circumstances related to homelessness, foster care, or deployment

    • Student safety concerns

    • District-approved school activities

  • Students who arrive after 7:30 AM must check in at the Attendance Office before going to class. Checking in first ensures correct attendance documentation, accountability and school safety.

  • If your student needs to leave early, please let us know one day in advance when possible. Your student will either receive a dismissal slip in class or be called down when it is time to leave. All students, even those who are 18, must check out and back in through the Attendance or Front Office per our closed campus policy. Students under 18 must have parent or guardian permission before leaving campus.

    Illness at School

If a student becomes ill during the day, we encourage the student to visit the Health Room first. Our school nurse will then contact a parent/guardian if the student needs to go home.

  • If a student believes an absence or tardy is incorrect, they can request an Attendance Challenge Form from the Attendance Office. Once signed by the teacher(s), the form should be returned for review within 48 hours.

Please note: Missing more than half of a class period is considered an absence per school policy.

  • Planning time away from school? Please complete a Pre-Arranged Absence Form at least one week before the absence. The grade-level admin may approve up to 5 days per school year for pre-arranged absences. Students can find this form in the Attendance Office or through our link here: Mukilteo School District - Student Services and Attendance Forms

  • The Washington Assessment of the Risks and Needs of Students (WARNS survey) is a brief (40+ questions) survey for middle and high school students and is designed to allow schools to assess individual risks and needs that may lead to truancy and/or school failure. The WARNS survey takes approximately 15-20 minutes to administer and asks students about past and current experiences in his or her life. The purpose of the WARNS survey is to help schools gather data to create  meaningful truancy interventions tailored to each student's needs. The survey will also help schools  develop better programs to promote social, emotional, and educational development, as well as selecting appropriate, meaningful truancy interventions.
